As the buds on the trees begin to unfurl, it’s a great time to think about renewal and add some colour into the future. Winter chills provided the perfect time to embrace reflection and introspection and now is the time to act on whatever you desire to come next.
Goals are a necessity. If we really, genuinely, want to achieve, we need to commit. Goals with a defined plan are even better!
Nature shows us that to achieve growth we need to sew the seeds, nurture them and pay them regular care and attention and the biggy that we all overlook at times is patience! How many of you plant the seeds and check them the morning after to see if they’ve sprouted? Guilty as charged… the reality being, of course, there will be nothing to see as sustainable progress takes time. However, the first step has been taken, water them regularly, show them the light and one day soon you will be rewarded with the miracle of growth.
Google yourself some stats on the impact of goal setting and results will tell you that if you commit your goal in writing you’ll be between 10 and 20% more likely to achieve it. I’d say that’s worth the investment, especially if you’re the impatient type – jumping the queue by 20% - what’s not to love?
Immerse yourself in nature, set your goals with presence, commit them in writing and back them up with a plan of small, yet achievable, steps. Once established, they will need continual review and maybe a little pruning every now and then to maximise growth.
Remember as with the natural world, your goals need not be rigid. Instead they need to flow like a babbling brook, adapt to whatever debris knocks them off course and carve out a new more innovative path.
So, what are you waiting for? Listen to the wind, feel the earth, and let your goals bloom like a wildflower meadow.
Good luck! (And if you’re really brave you’re welcome to commit them in writing in the comments section)
