“Winter is a season of recovery and preparation” (Paul Theroux)
Long nights and chill winds, Winter is so much more than a season of darkness and frosty landscapes. The changes we observe in nature in Winter offer a mirror for exploring our own personal growth should we choose to accept it.
By proactively embracing the extended darkness and stillness we can create space for introspection and reflection. As the logs crackle on the open fire and the flames dance to their tune, an opportunity for mindful musing presents itself.
Imagine the scene, add in a steaming mug of hot chocolate or even better a large glass of mulled wine and you have the perfect environment to nourish your soul, recharge your batteries and begin to sow the seeds of new beginnings. Personal growth often begins in quiet moments of reflection.
Winter is a time for shedding leaves, adapting to colder climes and hibernation. It shares with us lessons of resilience and renewal, emerging into Spring with renewed vigour and strength. Our personal growth journey aligns with nature, it’s a time for us to shed old or unwanted patterns, to adapt to change and to heal and renew, ready to adapt to whatever comes next.
Wintery landscapes provide simplicity and beauty with naked trees dripping with frosty diamonds, now I’m not suggesting you replicate that – unless of course that’s your style! However, a sun-kissed, frost laden forest can provide as much joy and interest as it can in any other season, so wrap up warm, venture into nature and welcome the wisdom of winter with open arms.
I’d love to hear your reflections on Winter and personal growth, how does it inspire you?
